Desert Hot Springs has announced that Mike Tyson will serve as Grand Marshal for its annual holiday parade, according to KESQ.

Tyson is a former world champion boxer, pigeon racer, is a current registered Tier II sex offender, and was convicted of rape in 1992 – for which he served three years in prison.

“Mike Tyson did already pay his debt to society for something that happened over 25 years ago,” DHS spokesperson Doria Wilms told the TV station. “So the city at this point looks at that as something that he has already done, and we look to what he’s done most recently and what he continues to do moving forward, so with that in mind and all the talks we’ve has thus far, we look very much forward to moving forward with the parade with Mike Tyson and his plans here in the city.”

Tyson is working on a cannabis project in the city that is focused on helping people with opioid addiction, according to the city.

The Desert Hot Springs Holiday Parade will be held December 8.
