The Desert X 2019 guide to Surrogates at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage

Desert X 2019 runs from Palm Springs to the Salton Sea (with many spots in the Coachella Valley in between) from February 9 through April 21. Below is info for Surrogates, a film about things to be used, in order of appearance, by self or others, for touching upon larger, insidious, or different things – yes, that’s the whole name for it – and you can catch all the info you need for every Desert X installation in our complete guide here.

What:Surrogates, a film about things to be used, in order of appearance, by self or others, for touching upon larger, insidious, or different things

Artist: Iman Issa

Note: This can only be seen Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 am – 4 pm

Where: Sunnylands Center and Gardens, 37977 Bob Hope Drive

Note: if you are looking to avoid Desert X “spoilers” stop reading here.  If not, carry on.

The Lowdown: Sunnylands is a must-see all by itself, but for the next two months you have the added bonus of seeing this sculpture – which is displayed on the lawn at the Rancho Mirage estate. In addition to the metal work, a small garden was also put in for Desert X.

If you go, just pull into Sunnylands during its regular hours and you will easily find the Desert X piece with the super-long name.

If you are touring Desert X all day, this is a good place to use the restrooms and maybe grab a coffee or snack as well.

Enjoy Surrogates, a film about things to be used, in order of appearance, by self or others, for touching upon larger, insidious, or different things and enjoy Desert X.
