The FBI dug up $600,000 that was buried in back of a Fontana home Wednesday.
“It was buried (in a Tupperware container) beneath some trees,” FBI Agent Laura Eimiller told the Press Enterprise.
The loot is part of a million dollars that was stolen from a Bank of America shipment on an armored truck in 2014. Two armored truck drivers were accused of stealing the money and arrested. The buried money was found in one of the men’s yard by the FBI after receiving a tip from an informant reports ABC 7.
Cesar Yanez, 37, of Fontana, and Aldo Esquivel Vega, 28, of Pomona, were the two men accused of stealing the money. The $600,000 was found in the backyard of Yanez, who pleaded guilty last year to larceny and conspiracy and was sentenced to almost five years in federal prison. Vegas is still awaiting trial.
Yanez and Esquivel were accused of stopping their armored truck in a parking lot. The rear doors of the truck were electronically opened by Vega who placed $1,086,000 into a trash can placed in the parking lot. The money was then retrieved by an as-yet-identified person.
