The Sacramento woman, who was not identified, and some friends were walking on the bridge when, according to authorities, she “attempted to take a selfie and fell. Landing on a trail below.”
The woman, who was airlifted to a hospital, was knocked unconscious and had a deep gash and bone fractures, a friend told KOVR.
The deputies on scene felt the fall would leave a lasting enough impression to prevent her and her friends from trespassing on the bridge again,” deputies said on the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook account.
The 730-foot-tall bridge is the highest in the state of California and one of the highest in the United States.
