Police are investigating a shooting in Cathedral City Sunday night that left a 22-year-old man dead.

The man was found unconscious in the parking lot of Ramon Plaza by police who were nearby for an unrelated matter and heard gunshots, reports The Desert Sun.

The man’s vehicle had bullet holes and damage from a collision. Paramedics were called, but were unable to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene. KMIR reports that the victim was 22 year-old Robert Yerena.
Police believe an unknown suspect or suspects shot at the man’s car on Ramon Road near Landau Blvd, before it rolled into the parking lot, according to KESQ.
Authorities are investigating.
