The Monday following Coachella is always a terrible day for traffic headed out of the Coachella Valley. Why? Well, for starters, there’s really only one way for everyone headed out to LA to go. Sure, you might cross your fingers and hope that this year will be different – but, it won’t. Westbound traffic on the 10 Freeway from the Coachella Valley to Los Angeles will be terrible from about 8 am on through the night Monday and, God forbid there’s an accident or something because then everything is just going to go to shit. So what can someone trying to get out of the desert do?
Well, if you have to head west on the 10, you have a few options:
- Wake up at 4 am to do it. If you are going to stay until the close of the festival, this is going to suck. But, if you are sober and you feel like pounding coffee until you get home where you can nap all damn day, this might work. If you didn’t go to the fest and just have business or something out of town, call off. Call off now!!!!
- Stay in town another day. This is by far the best option. The Coachella Valley is nice. Go to the Living Desert or a brewery or the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway or just lay by the pool at a resort without the smell of hipsters wearing Patchouli oil.
- Pay that expensive helicopter service to fly you above it all.
- Declare that Indio is now your new home and start fresh with a new life in the Coachella Valley.
Being stuck in traffic is bad enough, but to do it tired and hungover and broke and stinky and possibly worried about a new STD would be the worst. There is no question traffic is going to be absolutely awful getting out of Coachella on Monday. It always is and, at least in the near future, it always will be.
You have been warned.
