Two men were arrested Wednesday for beating a man into a coma outside a Cathedral City bar in June, according to police.

Andrew Ponce, 42, and Jorge Tapia, 36, – both of Cathedral City – were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, reports the Desert Sun. Tapia also faces the charges of robbery and possession of methamphetamine. Pence is also accused of being in possession of an illegal firearm.

According to police, the two men beat the victim outside of the The Block Sports Bar and Grill about 2 am on Saturday, June 25. Authorities are not clear what the motive in the beating was and witnesses say there might be other suspects involved.

Police arrived to find the man unconscious. He is still in a coma and has been transfered outside the Coachella Valley to be treated.

“He got pretty substantial brain injury from the assault,” Sgt. Andrew Diaz of the Cathedral City Police Department told the newspaper.

Police are continuing their investigation.
