The nightmare that is traveling on Thanksgiving got off to a fantastic start on Tuesday as authorties shutdown the eastbound 10 freeway for several hours after a scented mineral oil spill.
The spill, which was first reported to be “lubricant,” happened about 4 am near Golf Center Parkway.
Update #1 RIVCO: East I-10 also affected. West I-10 east of Golf Center Parkway big rig traffic collision. Traffic is stopped and there is a large lubricant spill. Possible injuries and debris in road. Avoid route if possible until further notice .#caltrans8

The Desert Sun reports the “lubricant” was in fact mineral oil that was was in barrels that fell from the truck.
Everything reopened at 6:30 am.

But, according to KESQ’s Jeremy Chen, the odor is quite pungent.
