A 19-year-old woman is dead after she was shot in a drive-by on I-10 on Sunday.

Maria Guadalupe Mendoza, 19, of Coachella, was shot around 3 p.m. Sunday on the I-10 eastbound, somewhere between Bob Hope Drive and Monterey, reports the Press Enterprise.

Authorities responded to a report of shots fired and immediately took Mendoza to Desert Regional Medical Center – where she died an hour later, according to the Desert Sun. It’s unclear if she was in a car with the shooters or driving separately.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested Andrew Castro, 19, of Palm Springs, on suspicion of murder.

A second man, 22-year-old Damian De Los Santos of Cathedral City, is also being sought by authorities in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Investigator Paixao from the Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3526.

De Los Santos is considered armed and dangerous – anyone who sees him is urged to call 911.
