Carey Alderson, the former president of the Twentynine Palms Chamber of Commerce, has been charged with embezzlement.
An employee of the chamber noticed in April that the organization’s credit card was being used to pay for Alderson’s gas and electric bills, reports Z107.7.
Alderson, according to the The Sheriff’s Department, repaid $160 of the $678 debt – but has not made any payments since.
He resigned as the chamber’s president on July 21, 3 days after the last time Executive Director Christine Hoenigmann saw him in the building.
“He came to the chamber to turn in keys but we had already changed the locks at that point,” she told The Desert Trail.
Alderson is set to be arraigned on the embezzlement charge on September 21.
