An undercover “Court Sting” conducted on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of three people who were told by a judge not to drive, then got behind the wheel anyway.
Officers from the Palm Desert Police Department conducted the operation from 6 am to noon, according to a news release. Officers staked out offenders who had been told by a judge not to drive or who had been told of their license suspension.
Seven offenders were followed by officers from courtrooms to their vehicles. While some offenders complied with the law and found another way to get home, three people who had been in court for DUI or other prior violations proceeded to get behind the wheel and drove away from the court house.
Those three drivers were then stopped by waiting officers for driving while suspended or unlicensed. They were then arrested and booked at the Indio Jail and their vehicles were towed and impounded.
