UPDATE 9/9 8:10PM: This is indeed the official new mascot.
Original Post from 9/1: Friday night, it was out with the old and (almost) in with the new as Coachella Valley High ditched their snarling, cartoonish mascot (below) for their season opening football game.
Reports have it that the school will remain The Arabs, and the potential new-look mascot (top of story) might be announced as soon as this week. Here are 5 reasons why that would be awesome:
- 83 years is a long time for a logo. Companies change their logos every 2 years, so why not a high school? Can you imagine having an iPhone with this logo?
- The new mascot is just way cooler. I would hang with that dude.
- It would seem that the new-look mascot would be a real human face instead of a costume one. How happy is the dude who portrays the mascot going to be knowing that he doesn’t have to wear that huge, hot head in 115 degrees?!?
- Is it just me or will that new logo look rad on helmets? Just sayin’.
- The new mascot has the approval of The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. What an awesome message to pass along to young people. There were some differences of opinion, people were offended, and so everyone worked shit out. What a nice lesson for our future leaders. Now if only our current leaders in Washington DC could learn about compromise.
