Welcome to the first weekend in May in the Coachella Valley – which looks like it is going to be filled with tequila and some super-weird weather. After three straight weekends of festivals, you might be ready to just kick it in the pool or binge on Netflix – but, for those who are looking to get out and do something, here are five things going on in Greater Palm Springs.
Cinco de Mayo
The weekend gets started with an excuse to drink margaritas and chevelas. Sure, this is how you might start most of your weekends – but, May 5th means you can do it while watching people getting shitfaced while wearing awful sombreros.
Here’s the spots in town hosting specials and events.
Naked Eyes and Animotion
The 80s take over Vibe at Morongo Casino Resort Spa on Friday night at 10 pm as the bands behind “Promises, Promises” and “Obsession” perform. All tickets are $20.
Here are a couple of videos to help you refresh your 80s memory and, wow those dance moves and hair in the Animotion video!
Bet the Ponies
The 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby takes place on Saturday with the post time being 3:34 pm. If you wanna bet on the race, the only spot in town to do it is Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Put $20 on McCraken for me while you are there.
The derby also means mint juleps! Babe’s in Rancho Mirage will be serving them up while broadcasting the race.
Saturday is the 143rd #KentuckyDerby. Watch it here LIVE & W/ Volume! Pick your #Whiskey for your #MintJulep! Post Time is 3:34pm. #GoBabyGo pic.twitter.com/j8rXIxLNye

Boxing
Canelo Álvarez takes on Julio César Chávez Jr. in Las Vegas. Spotlight 29 will show it for free – with the broadcast starting at 6 pm on Saturday night.
Led Zepagain
While you wait to find out if those Led Zeppelin Desert Trip II rumors are true, you can enjoy the tribute band Led Zepagain who are performing at the Rock Yard at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Saturday night along with the band One Less Monkey. The music starts at 7:30 pm on Saturday and the Rock Yard is always free to attend.
Have fun!
Note: if there is something you think we missed or think there is something we should know about coming up in the future – let us know about.
