It’s the first weekend after all of the big fests and while it’s nice to have a bit of a breater, does it really have to be so damn hot?!? Here are five things happening around the Greater Palm Springs area that you might be interested in checking out if you choose to leave your air conditioning.
Air Show – Saturday
The Jacqueline Cochran Air Show is taking place from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday and will include some cool displays, planes, aerobatics, and food trucks,. It’s free to get in and you’ll probably want to bring out some lawn chairs to the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal.

The Kentucky Derby is taking place on Saturday and that doesn’t just mean watching all of those weird hats while drinking a mint julep, you can also bet the race right here in the desert at the only place that has off track betting: Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

Cinco de Mayo – Saturday
if you’re looking for a spot to get your margarita or chavela on, you can see a list of things going on around the Coachella Valley here – just be sure to drink responsibly as not only is there a DUI checkpoint scheduled, it’s just the smart thing to do. Train – Saturday
The band behind hits like “Meet Virginia,” “Hey Soul Sister,” and “Drive By” swing into Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Tickets to the concert will set you back $129, $99, $89 and $69.
Yucaipa Music and Arts Festival
For those up for a short drive west (where it’s cooler!), the Yucaipa Music and Arts Festival has performances by The English Beat, Missing Persons, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Saturday night. The fest runs Friday through Sunday and is free to attend.
