A 75-year-old Palm Springs man was arrested on Monday in connection with a homicide investigation at a home on Pico Road in Palm Springs.
Officers with the Palm Springs Police Department responded to a call for medical aid for an elderly female that had been assaulted about 6 pm. Officers arrived to find the elderly female victim with significant trauma, deceased inside the residence, according to a news release.
A house guest, identified as Stephen McKernan, was also at the location. The preliminary investigation lead investigators to believe that McKernan was responsible for the homicide. McKernan had known the victim and her husband for several years.
McKernan was arrested by PSPD a couple hours later and is being charged with murder.
