Recently I asked longtime residents of The Greater Palm Springs Area for any advice they would give to someone who had just moved to The Desert.  Tips covered everything from dealing with the heat to driving to the old people.  Some were serious, some were not.  Some were smart, some were absurd.  Some were sincere and some were just dickish.

And now, in no particular order, are #40 – #21:

40) No matter which city you live in don’t bother telling people from outside the Valley which one. Just say you live in Palm Springs. You’ll spare yourself the look of bewilderment and save time not having to answer “where the heck is that?!” (Brianne M.)
39) Use sun block even when there are clouds. (Alexis S.)
38) More important to have a shaded parking spot than one closer to the door (Tiffany W.)
37) Don’t stay. Get out as soon as possible. Too hot and nothing for young people to do unless you like spending lots money …(Cheryl P.)
36) When you get robbed, you can find your electronics in a Facebook group called desert electronics (Ricardo P.)
35) I hope you like to hike, bike and take pictures not much more to do here than that….(John C.)
34) NEVER go hiking alone! I live in the hills above PD, and every few months, there’s a hiker who needs help. And please, folks, don’t let your cat or small dog out….coyotes are everywhere. So are “Lost Cat” signs… (Karen C.)
33) You’ll know when the freakin snow birds are back in town (Rosie M.)
32) It is a small town and you may recognize the girls from the strip club while you are out during the day, just act normal – they are people too (Roberto H.)
31) Stay hydrated, always carry water (Sharon R.)
30) Take up stock in sunscreen (Kylee B.)
29) Invest in cheap every day shoes because the heat will melt the bottom of your sole before you get a chance to really break them in. (Leslie H.)
28) It’s Summertime… HYDRATE… wanna know if you’re hydrating enough? Here is a simple test: If you don’t need to pee, you’re not hydrating enough!  (John S.)
27) Buy in Imperial Irrigation District. Your electrical bill will be half as much as if you are in SCE. Border line is pretty much Washington. West of washington is SCE. East of Washington is IID.  (Matthew M.)
26) Never buy a house North of Country Club. (Winds) (Holly T.)
25) Make sure you’re okay either the fact there is constant road construction and people can’t drive worth a crap in any weather condition. (Anthony C.)
24) Always have bottles of water with you during the summer, especially if it is a shopping day. I recommend having a mini cooler or a lunch pail in the car and have a few bottles of frozen water in there.  (Angelica M.)
23) BRING MONEY! (Patrick C.)
22) Find the “locals bars” – 10 bucks a beer at “tourist traps” is ridiculous. (Sandy B.)
21) Get used to sweating.  A LOT!!!  (Damon K.)
