California’s drought problems are over! The City of Palm Springs has decided to remove a whole 10 percent of the grass currently at the airport! Sure The Governor has demanded that you and I cut back 25 percent of our water usage – but are we really supposed to have the cars of Snow Birds sitting in a parking lot surrounded by just desert landscaping?
This move made The Water Warriors over at The Desert Sun very happy.
The move could not have come soon enough.

The city claims they can not cut eliminate additional grass due to budget issues (dafuq?) – but, to show what a huge deal a 10 percent cutback is for the airport, just look at the following 2 maps…
This is the airport’s lawn now:
And this is what it will look like with approximately 10% less grass!:
Wow! What a difference.
Note: I did not ever think Cactus Hugs would have a ‘Highlight’s magazine quality to it, but now you can spend all day searching for where the grass is missing from in the second picture!
And while it is not as much as it should be, I guess 10 % is a start. But, it might not really be addressing a bigger lawn issue in The Coachella Valley. See, when you zoom the Google Map out just a little bit, you can see that the Airport lawn (bottom left) is dwarfed by the gigantic green area of the nearby Escena Golf Club (which coincidentally is right next door to The Water Warrior Newspaper).
Maybe, at some point, Palm Springs can start to do something about that?
