A man attending The Coachella Music and Arts Festival was struck and killed by a train in Indio early Saturday morning.
23-year-old Jannik Andersen was hit by a train traveling near Pacific Street in Indio, about 4 miles northeast of the music festival, just after 3am Saturday, according to Riverside County Coroner’s Office. Andersen had been a student at University of Colorado after graduating from Torrey Pines High School in 2009. His friends said that he was in The Coachella Valley to attend the music festival.
Officials at the coroner’s office told the DailyCamera it was too early to tell whether drugs or alcohol played a role in Andersen’s death. Indio Police are working with Union Pacific Railroad Police to investigate the incident.
“That kid could be best friends with 100 people,” Patrick Ciri, Andersen’s roommate and a friend since high school told DailyCamera. “I guarantee he’s changed everyone’s life he’s met.”
