A riot at a Yucca Valley school on Tuesday ended with nine students being arrested.
Police were called to the Yucca Valley Community Day School just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning due to two female students who were fighting, according to the Hi Desert Star.
“When a group of juveniles in the classroom found out law enforcement was called they started throwing chairs and trash cans,” Deputy Shauna Ables, explained to the Hi Desert Star. “When we walked into the classroom we addressed around 14 kids and told them we were going to deal with the two who got into the fight and give the rest a chance to change their behavior.”

Deputies eventually went outside to speak with the teacher, at which point students closed the door and locked out the officers and school officials.
“An unknown juvenile slammed the door so hard it almost knocked down detective (Heidi) Hague,” she said. “As soon as the door was slammed we heard loud commotion and chairs being thrown, so for the safety of the kids we were getting ready to breech the door.”
Eventually, deputies entered the room, thanks to the help of an administrator’s key, and arrested eight students on suspicion of participating in a riot and another on suspicion of assault and battery.
