Police arrested a 49-year-old La Quinta man after they say he stole a car from a grocery store parking lot, then caused a major crash just a short distance away. The man was reportedly drunk.
George Huffman stole a car, which was being loaded with groceries, from the Sprouts parking lot in La Quinta at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, reports KESQ. He then drove away drunk and caused a crash a short distance from the store at the intersection of Fred Waring Drive.
The driver and passenger of the other vehicle, who were not identified, were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
Huffman was charged with vehicle theft, driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury to others.
Huffman was also admitted to the hospital for undisclosed injuries sustained during the crash.
