A suspected drunk driver killed a man in a hit-and-run accident on Monday, then drove for over a mile with his body lodged in the windshield, say police.
The crash happened at 6:20 a.m. on Mission Avenue in Oceanside. Witnesses told police they saw a car crash into a man who was walking on the sidewalk.
Police say the car was being driven by 29year-old Esteysi Sanchez Izazaga, who goes by Stacy Sanchez, who police say was driving under the influence. According to NBC San Diego, the collision was brutal:
“…the victim flew into the windshield, head down, coming to a rest on the front passenger seat.
The man’s leg detached from his body and flew through the back window, landing on the trunk of the car, police said.
After the crash, Izazaga continued driving her car for about a mile, before eventually parking her car in a cul-de-sac and walking away, according to the cops.
When she arrived home, her husband called paramedics and the Oceanside Police Department.
Izazaga was arrested and charged with felony DUI, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
“From what I understand, she was out partying all night and was on the way home,” Sgt. Jeff Brandt of the Oceanside Police told The Washington Post.
