Most of Palm Desert does not have drive-thru fast food joints. And while this can suck a lot of the time – as you have to actually put on pants and get out of your car to get a Big Mac – it does have one unintended benefit, as demonstrated in a recent Craigslist “Missed Connections” posting.
Here’s part of the post written by a woman seeking a fella she met in Palm Desert, with the emphasis by me:
Hi I saw you at a fast food joint in Palm desert. I was in my nursing uniform and we chatted for a bit until our burgers were done. I told you I was new in town and how weird it was that some of the fast food places don’t have a drive through.
I know this is a long shot but I’ve been thinking about you for about 6-8 weeks now and would love to talk to you. You were in a white truck with pieces of lumber hanging out of the back.
Okay, well first off, maybe don’t wait 6 to 8 weeks to try to track someone down. I might suggest asking for a number while they are, you know, in the same room with you. But, beyond that, this shows that being forced to go inside of your local fast food joint gives you a chance to meet new people – something which we have already discussed is not easy in the Coachella Valley.
Plus, who knows, maybe the person you meet while waiting for your McMuffin is the one you have been waiting for your whole life…and, perhaps more importantly, this person seems like a pretty cheap date!
Just make sure you secure that lumber in the back of your truck, Mr. Guy. I don’t need a 4×4 falling out of your truck bed and into my windshield on Highway 111.
