Trump in 2012: Palm Springs windmills are ‘bird killing machines’

Donald Trump took to the radio Tuesday to promote his candidacy for President and, for some reason, piss off the majority of residents of Palm Springs by calling the area a “junkyard” and a “poor man’s Disneyland.”  So vote for him, I guess.

This is not the first time the small-handed crybaby, who lost a court battle with the Scotland over the placement of windmills near one of his golf courses, has gone out of his way to talk shit about the wind farms at the entrance to the Coachella Valley.

“The turbines are made in China for the most part and certainly outside the United States, but mostly in China. They are a bird killing machines, they kill birds,” Donald Trump told KESQ in a phone interview back in 2012.

And this from a guy who knows a thing or two about things made in China.

Like some most things Trump says, calling wind turbines “bird killing machines” wasn’t exactly accurate.

“The number one cause of bird kills is window glass off our houses, the number two cause of bird kills are domesticated house cats,” Best of the Best tour guide Ken Huskey told the tv station. “Way down on that list, you’re going to find wind turbines. In fact, the government says out of every 100, 000 birds that are killed by a manmade cause, 3 out of 100,000 are killed by wind turbines.”

How Stuff Works put together a chart for anyone – perhaps even an overgrown, locker room talking Oompa Loompa – to show just how far down the list windmills are when it comes to killing birds:

Man-made structure/technology Associated bird deaths per year (U.S.)
Feral and domestic cats Hundreds of millions [source: AWEA]
Power lines 130 million — 174 million [source: AWEA]
Windows (residential and commercial) 100 million — 1 billion [source: TreeHugger]
Pesticides 70 million [source: AWEA]
Automobiles 60 million — 80 million [source: AWEA]
Lighted communication towers 40 million — 50 million [source: AWEA]
Wind turbines 10,000 — 40,000 [source: ABC]

So I guess the big question is: when is the huge bird lover that is Donald Trump going to go on the radio and tell everyone to ditch their cars, cats, and windows to save all those damn birds?!?
