Renting out a home in the Palm Springs area during Coachella fest can be a great way to make some quick cash. But, and this is important, this only goes for people who actually own the homes they are renting out.
Robert Dennis Enriquez pleaded guilty on Monday to 23 counts of grand theft and immediately sentenced to 13 years and four months in state prison after charging festival goers thousands to stay at an Indian Wells home that was not his, reports the Press Enterprise. He was also ordered to pay $45,975 in restitution to the victims.
Authorities say Enriquez made agreements with 23 people to rent a home on Elkhorn Trail in Indian Wells during Coachella through Craigslist, notes KESQ. He told them that he would text them instructions how to get inside the home once they arrived in the desert. He never did.
Police say that Enriquez did live in the home from October 2013 to just before the 2014 festival, but he and his wife were evicted for not paying rent.
