Over two dozen firefighters were treated to a meal at a Colton Denny’s by a woman who paid their tab anonymously.
A group of about 25 people who had been taken on the 70-acre La Cadena fire west of the 215 freeway were dining at the restaurant on Saturday night when the woman picked up the tab.
“I felt so bummed out,” Margarita Hernandez, who waited on the firefighters, told the Press Enterprise. “I should have gotten her name.”
In addition to the $405 tab and $50 tip, the woman also bought a $100 gift card and told the restaurant to use it to pay for desserts for any firefighters who came in later in the night.
“I was like, ‘Really? That’s really sweet of you,'” Hernandez told the newspaper. “She said, ‘No, these men are out there fighting for us and protecting our community.'”
The firefighters were very appreciative.
“On behalf of all of the firefighters that worked on the La Cadena Fire from San Bernardino County Fire, Cal Fire, Redlands, Colton, Loma Linda, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, San Manuel, Montclair, Apple Valley, Chino Valley, Upland, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation, and Colton PD, we thank you for your generous show of support,” the department posted on Facebook.
