Good news, everyone! The Trump Administration has decided not to fuck up one of the most beautiful areas in Southern California.
The Desert Sun reports that Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke won’t wipe out the 154,000 acres of the Sand to Snow Monument, which spans from Palm Springs to the peak of Mount San Gorgonio, as he has taken it off his list of monuments under review. The Monument was created in early 2016 by President Obama, which helps to explain why you-know-who wanted to look into destroying it.
But, it’s not all good news. The administration is still looking at shrinking or entirely eliminating other National Monuments, including the Mojave Trails National Monument.
By being deemed a National Monument, an area is protected from mining, solar and wind farms, and developments – such as, oh I don’t know – a gaudy hotel, casino, or golf course.
