Jaylynn Amanda Keith, 27, died from a single gunshot wound to her head. Her body was found on March 15, 2017, in the bathtub of a Palm Springs apartment shared by the couple.

Attorney’s for Beusausen, who moved to Texas shortly after Keith’s death, argued that Keith died from suicide. Prosecutors disputed that claim saying that the position of the gun near the body, which Beausausen said he moved along with the body, did not indicate a suicide.
“He manipulates the body. We know that. We know that from photos. He interferes with the gun evidence. If someone had shot themselves, we all know better. You don’t touch the evidence. You don’t touch anything. You don’t touch the body, you don’t touch the gun. No. He is trying to contaminate any potential evidence which might come back to him,” Assistant District Attorney Michelle Paradise said during closing arguments (via KMIR).
Paradise alleged that Beushausen rendered Keith unconscious, then put her in the bathtub and shot her while shielding himself from blood with a shower curtain.
Police identified Beushausen as a suspect after he gave conflicting statements about how he found Keith, according to the Desert Sun.
He first told 911 that he was asleep and was woken up by the gunshot. Beushausen then told emergency crews that a different noise woke him up and it took him 20 minutes to find Keith’s body. He later said he was awake when Keith “got up and went and killed herself” and that she was still alive when he discovered her.
Police say Beushausen abruptly quit his job and fled to McAllen, Texas, during the investigation. He was taken into custody approximately seven miles from the border
Beshausen faces 50 years to life in prison.
