An author has come forward with allegations that La Quinta Library officials interrupted his presentation and asked him to put away a Mexican flag in 2016.
Victor Villaseñor told KESQ that he was making a presentation on January 30, 2016 and the library staff interrupted him, asking that he put away a Mexican flag. He says he was then asked to leave and had to find another place to to finish the presentation.
Villaseñor told the TV station that he felt discriminated against but didn’t report the incident as he didn’t think anything would come of it. He is coming forward now after allegations that students were made to put away Mexican flags and change their presentation at the request of officials at the library in September.
The City of La Quinta released a statement saying they they have forwarded information of the claims to he Riverside County Counsel’s Office, who will determine if it will be included in an independent investigation on the student incident.
