The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade – which sounds like it would be a fun, whimsical, and entertaining event, but is, in fact, not really any of those things – will get a nice chunk of change this year to be staged courtesy of the city of Palm Desert. This despite the Desert Sun reporting that city council members said that the quality of the parade has been sinking in recent years. But hey, when has Palm Desert ever shied away from throwing lots of money at unpopular things?
The event will once again be held at the end of October and act as a fundraiser for the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce. Now, while one without any advanced knowledge of the event might immediatly think that a golf cart parade might be similar to the Doo Dah Parade – as it’s a parade based around golf carts, it is instead, well, I don’t really know what to describe what it as other than a thing that happens that people go to when one of their children or someone they know someone is in it.
The cost to put on the parade last year was a surprising $30,000 and the extra $10k this year is going to a parade planner with the hopes that that person or agency can make the parade better – which might be hard because, as we all know, El Paseo always gotta El Paseo.
Perhaps we can save the city $10,000 and do some free consulting in the comments. Tell us how you would make the Golf Cart Parade better…
