A bicyclist was hospitalized with critical injuries after a collision on Tuesday morning.

The area of East Palm Canyon and Date Palm Drive was closed to drivers after the crash, which happened a little before 8 am, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.

Officials told KESQ that a white jeep hit the cyclist, who was in a crosswalk, on Palm Canyon Drive. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.
#COLLISION on E. Palm Canyon between Date Palm and Cathedral Canyon. According to CCPD, this Jeep hit a bicyclist in the crosswalk. They’re investigating who is at fault. Avoid the area — it’ll be shut down until at least 10am.

Emergency crews took the cyclist to the hospital for treatment.
Despite the road being closed, one motorist appears to have attempted to drive through the scene. It didn’t work out well for him.
