5 Things to Do In Palm Springs This Weekend (7/11-7/13)

Typically, the middle of July is not a big time for events in Palm Springs and The Coachella Valley (114 degree temperatures will do that to a town). But this weekend there is a lot going on from tattoos to musicals – plus I threw in a couple of short drive options out of town (including a Brew Fest!):
  1. Palm Springs Tattoo ConventionLive music, DJs, a bikini contest, and a bunch of tattoo artists will be on hand throughout the weekend at The Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs. A weekend pass will set you back only 20 bucks – and should you get inked, you will literally have a lifetime of memories.
  2. Comedy Night – Palm SpringsRemember Theo from Road Rules?  Well he does stand-up comedy now and he will be doing it Saturday night at The Purple Room along with Helen Wong.  $50 gets you a 3 course meal and comedy.
  3. Seusical the MusicalThe Palm Canyon Theater brings to Palm Springs the musical that is based on, you guessed it, the books of Dr. Seuss – so I am pretty sure it will rhyme. Friday and Saturday evening shows plus a Sunday matinee. Tickets 10-25 bucks.
  4. Pool Flicks: Every Friday night in August, just after dusk, Palm Springs Wet-n-Wild will be showing a movie that you can watch poolside.  This week’s flick is Frozen, which means you get to hear your kid sing “Let it Go” for the 5,342nd time.  Meanwhile, across town, a buck gets you into a showing of Captain America: The First Avenger at La Quinta’s Fritz Burns Pool.
  5. (Almost) Bon Jovi: Wanted is not Bon Jovi, but they look like them, they sound like them, they’ve seen a million faces, and they’ve rocked them all.  The tribute band plays The Rockyard at Fantasy Springs on Saturday – admission is free.

If you find yourself up for a short drive, here are a couple of bonus options:

  1. National Orange Show’s 1st Annual Brew Fest: Over 25 local (and not-so-local) craft breweries are scheduled to participate plus food trucks, music, even craft soda samples for those below the drinking age. General admission will cost you $25, but you get 12 tastings and a souvenir glass
  2. Lemon Lilly FestivalIdyllwild’s annual event is happening this weekend. There will be crafts, music, food and the temperature will be 20+ degrees cooler than The Desert!
