Adam Long, a PGA tour rookie, was the big winner at the Desert Classic on Sunday – with his first career PGA win and a very nice paycheck that comes along with it.
After a couple of days of Phil Mickelson dominating the course, he left the door open on Sunday for the rookie, who had made just five career starts on the tour, to shoot ahead of the standings and, thanks to a final round 65, take home the win.
An absolutely unreal day that I'll never forget. Thank you to everyone for all of the support and @desert_classic for an incredible week! pic.twitter.com/SKJPZz3Erx

According to Golf Digest, Long has taken home only $13,568 in winnings on the tour, but that’s going to be boosted just a tad bit with the $1,062,000 paycheck he took home for winning the Desert Classic.
Other payouts included:
- T-2: Phil Mickelson, -25, $519,200
- T-2: Adam Hadwin, -25, $519,200
- 4: Talor Gooch, -24, $283,200
- 5: Dominic Bozzelli, -22, $236,000
In all, $5.9 million was awarded from the Desert Classic purse.
