Discount grocery chain Aldi has announced it will open two Coachella Valley locations on March 24.

The stores, in La Quinta and Palm Springs, will join 6 more Inland Empire locations – Beaumont, Fontana, Lake Elsinore, Moreno Valley, San Bernardino and Yucaipa – in opening on that date.

Each store will open with three days of giveaways and sweepstakes, reports The Press Enterprise.

La Quinta’s store is located at Washington and Highway 111 (next to the new In-N-Out Burger).  The Palm Springs Aldi is at 5200 Ramon Road – in The Springs shopping center.  Another location, in Palm Desert in the old David’s Bridal spot in the Desert Crossing Center (Target / Best Buy) will open at a later date.

The stores will mark the first for the chain in Southern California – joining Aldi’s other 1,400 stores.

Aldi claims to save shoppers up to 50 percent by selling knockoffs of over 1,000 of the most frequently bought national brands. Its stores are built smaller than a regular grocery store, similar in size to Fresh & Easy or Trader Joe’s, and shoppers bag their own groceries.

Aldi plans to open a total of 45 stores in California in 2016.
