A 25-year-old Banning man was arrested on Friday after police say he tried to run over a Banning police officer with a car.

Officers went to East Williams Street around 4:20 pm on Saturday to arrest Jacob Victor Estrada in connection with active felony warrants, according to a news release. Police spotted Estrada in a vehicle nearby and officers say he sped off upon seeing them and, “attempted to run over one of the detectives and crashed his vehicle into an unmarked police vehicle,” according to the Banning Police Department.

Police say that Estrada drove the car for several hundred yards after the crash, before it became disabled. He then ran into a house on Evans Street and barricaded himself inside for about four hours before surrendering to police.

There were no injuries to officers, the public or Estrada, according to officials.
