Black Panther has a nice Coachella Valley reference in it and the Internet loves it

Black Panther is dominating at the box office and rightfully so, because it’s awesome. Those who have seen the movie know there is a nice local reference in it that residents of the Coachella Valley will appreciate (the people in my jam-packed screening at the River in Rancho Mirage definitely appreciated it), but if you have not seen the movie and don’t want it spoiled, then stop reading here as there are spoilers ahead.

Okay, here we go:

The moment comes at the very end of the movie. T’Challa has defeated Killmonger to, once again, become King of Wakanda. He travels to Oakland with his sister Shuri to establish an outreach center at the building where his uncle N’Jobu died.

While there, Shuri proclaims, “When you said you would take me to California for the first time, I thought you meant Coachella.” It’s a pretty funny moment that’s perfectly placed after a long, action-packed battle scene.
