Bob’s Discount Furniture, the 12th largest furniture chain in the United States, will open its first location in the Coachella Valley in Palm Desert in August.
The retailer will open in the space once occupied by Sports Authority next to Target in the Desert Crossings Center at 72519 Highway 111. Crews were on-site on Tuesday installing Bob’s Discount Furniture signs on the exterior of the building.
The company currently has just over 100 stores in 16 states. It was founded in 1991 with its first store in Newington, Connecticut.
Bob’s Discount Furniture is best known for its wacky ads featuring am animated version of founder Bob Kaufman – which are sure to flood local television soon.
Kaufman, who now has the title president emeritus, is no longer is a majority stakeholder in the company that bears his name.. The company has been controlled by Boston, Massachussetts-based Bain Capital, since 2014.
Kaufman credits the success of Bob’s Discount Furniture over the past 25 to a simpe philosophy. “We offer the best quality furniture for the lowest possible price,” He told BizJournals.com.
The company has also installed a cafe offering free snacks (FREE SNACKS!) and beverages in each store, allowing people to relax and enjoy some grub as the shop for furniture.
“Furniture is one of the two or three biggest investments people make in their live,” noted Kaufman, who says that he wants customers and their families to enjoy themselves as they shop and consider their investment.
The website for Bob’s Discount furniture showcases the stores inventory of sofas, bedroom furniture, home decor, mattresses & bedding, an outlet, and more.
A search ad for the location, says it will be opening on August 30.
