You find $10,000 in cash on the street. What do you do? We all know what you’re supposed to do, but what would you really do? I mean, this is 10 grand we’re talking about. That could go a long way towards paying your bills, taking that trip you’ve been putting off, paying off your car, I mean, I could go on and on. A 16-year-old in Santa Barbara faced that dilemma this week as he found a grip of cash inside a purse lying on the street this week and, despite what had to be a huge temptation to keep it, he turned it over to police.
“If the roles were reversed and I had lost something with a significant sum of money inside, I know I would want it back for sure,” Rhami Zeini told KEYT.
And that’s very nice of him. And his act did not go unrewarded as, after police tracked down the purse’s owner, they gave Rhami a $100 reward.
A Santa Barbara teen found a purse in the roadway w/ $10,000 dollars inside. We commend him for doing the right thing and turning it in to the Sheriff's Office. We found the grateful owner. What a great example of doing the right thing even when no one is watching. #sbsheriff pic.twitter.com/iJbOO9dJeW

As for who was the purse’s owner (perhaps Uncle Billy from It’s a Wonderful Life?) and why they were cruising around with 10 grand in cash, we will probably never know.
