Downtown Palm Springs will be without a Starbucks for about two days. Will anyone be able to survive the long 48 hour stretch without being able to post their red cups on Instagram? It will surely be dire, but let’s hope so. Stay strong, Palm Springs.
It’s all because the old Starbucks at Tahquitz – or as those from out of town call it, “tahh, queets” – closed on Wednesday so the chain can reopen a more hoity-toity (and expensive) Starbucks across the street on Friday in that new hotel that you, as a taxpayer, basically paid for and yet are getting no free nights or meals out of your, umm, “investment”.
If you need a @Starbucks fix in @DwntwnPS, you'll need to wait until Friday morning as the old one has closed and the new one is about to open. Next door @Kimpton Rowan, guests can also check-in Friday. #kimpton #starbucks #kimptonrowanpalmsprings #california #downtownpalmsprings pic.twitter.com/ANyVloRcJd

I am told you can still go to Coffee Bean, a place that you haven’t thought about in forever – which is, surprisingly still open. Or you can support one of the cool local joints we are lucky to have in Palm Springs like Ernest Coffee, Koffi, or Gré Coffee House & Art Gallery, to name a few and then, maybe, just keep going to them because it’s better to buy local.
