More than a month after being washed out in the Valentine’s Day Storm from Hell, Cathedral Canyon Drive has reopened at the Whitewater Wash in Cathedral City.
City spokesman Chris Parman told the Desert Sun that the road was opened at 7 am on Thursday. Currently, half the road is being used for traffic in both directions, while crews work on the other half of the roadway.

The section of Cathedral Canyon sustained about $1.2 million in damage in the storm, which wreaked havoc on roads across the Coachella Valley.
“In an effort to open the road on either Monday or Tuesday of next week, Cathedral Canyon Drive at the wash will be reduced to one lane in each direction,” the city said in a news release (via KESQ). “Cathedral City plans to begin construction on a new, four-lane bridge over the wash in December 2019. The bridge will also include sidewalks and bike lanes in both directions.
