The Cathedral City Election is Going to Be Super Weird

[media-credit name=”Wikimedia Commons” align=”aligncenter” width=”300″]Cathedral City[/media-credit]Update 3:20PM: Early reports from multiple outlets had Vasquez pleading guilty to 3 felonies, as The Desert Sun reports: if Vasquez resigns by Sept. 22 and also resigns if he’s re-elected in the  election, he’ll only be sentenced to probation for the two misdemeanors and the felony embezzlement counts will be dismissed – so no felony for Vasquez as earlier reports indicated.

Cathedral City Councilman Charles “Chuck” Vasquez pleaded guilty to charges stemming for embezzling funds from an employee loan program.

Oddly, Vasquez is running for City Council and it is now too late to remove his from the ballot – though KESQ reports that the plea deal calls for Vasquez to resign if elected.

Elections are weird and convicted felons have won before – heck, even 2 dead guys won elections in the same year – so anything is possible.

This November, Vasquez could win election, immediately be forced to resign, and then what…chaos?  Congratulations Cathedral City, your election for city council just got interesting.
