Just one day after we dreamt about some variety with fast food offerings in the Coachella Valley, Cathedral City Mayor Stan Henry announced that there were new restaurants coming to the city. They were: McDonald’s, Taco Bell and, somehow, yet another Starbucks.
Lord knows none of us wanted to sit through a boring state of the city snoozefest – but, thanks to the reporting of Kia Farhang of The Desert Sun, we did not have to:
Henry eschewed a lengthy speech for a video message and interviews with two developers with projects on the north side of town. The city is annexing unincorporated Riverside County land around Interstate 10 and Bob Hope Drive and hopes to see homes and businesses flock to the area.
Baycrest Companies of Newport Beach plans to break ground on a commercial park at Bob Hope and Varner Road early next year. The company has already inked agreements with McDonald’s, Starbucks and Taco Bell, President Brent Ogden Jr. told Henry. And he’d like to bring big-box retailers to the area.
A quick search to the internet finds that the Coachella Valley currently has at least eight Taco Bells, 20 McDonald’s, and this is the map of locations from Starbucks’ website:
To be fair to Cathedral City, I did this week spot a sign in Rancho Mirage for a Starbucks going in across the street from another Starbucks (Bob Hope and 111) – because finally opening one of those Dunkin’ Donuts we were supposed to have instead would just make too much sense.
No word on what that potential big box retailer will be, but it will probably be a Walmart…which will probably have a McDonald’s inside…because that is all we will ever have.
