A Cathedral City man was sentenced to 25 years to life on Friday for fatally beating his 66-year-old roommate to death in 2016.
Scott Edmund Pettigrew was found guilty in August of murder, elder abuse and violating a protective order in the death of Anita Mimie Cowen, a woman who he had been living with on Heritage Court.
Cowen was found unresponsive in the home’s backyard a little after June 15, 2016. Police arreste Pettigrew later that day. According to KESQ, less than a week prior, Cowen had filed a restraining order against Pettigrew, stating that she had multiple altercations with him since he moved into the home a couple of months prior.
