78 cats have been immediately put up for adoption after being found in the Cathedral City home of a woman who passed away over the weekend.

Employees from the Riverside County Department of Animal Services discovered the deceased woman, along with the cats, a dog, a hen and a duck on Wednesday morning, reports the Desert Sun.

The woman died of what appears to be natural causes at some point during the weekend.  The conditions of the home were described as “deplorable” to the point where the house may need to be condemned.

There were too many animals for the Coachella Valley Animal Campus so they were instead taken to the Western Riverside County-City Animal Shelter in Riverside where they have been put up for adoption. Officials say that most of the cats are adults and now require nursing care to treat upper-respiratory problems.
