Assemblyman Chad Mayes dusted off his best denim shirt before heading to the county elections office to file paperwork to run again this week and, while normally a candidate filing for reelection wouldn’t be a surprise, Mayes has decided to run as an Independent rather than as a Republican this time around.
Just left the County elections office this morning to process paperwork for re-election to the Assembly.

“Our two-party system in this country is failing us and I think we spend way too much time on gamesmanship, versus working on solutions to make people’s lives better,” Mayes told the Desert Sun.
Which, yeah, sure, but his decision might have more to do with the fact that
Republican voter registration have fallen over 10 percentage points in the last decade and Democrats now have more registered voters in the district Mayes represents than Republicans.
