The Los Angeles Chargers, which is still a weird-ass thing to say, kicked off the preseason on Sunday at their tiny, temporary stadium, the StubHub Center. Despite the stadium being named for a company that operates legal ticket scalping, no one needed to bother with resell tickets as there were obviously plenty still available.
Check out all the empty seats:
Okay, that was before the game. But still…
Even the announcers couldn’t hold back.
Dan Fouts with subtle digs @StubHub: @Chargers Coliseum attendance in 1960 LA was similar to today's attendance. #GhostTown

The LA Times notes that the announced crowd of 21,054 was about 6,000 shy of the stadium’s 27,000-seat capacity. It was also more than 4,500 less than the Galaxy drew Saturday night for a soccer game in the same stadium.
Something tells me the Chargers are going to have attendance issues when they're already covering seats with tarps…in preseason. #SEAvsLAC

Last year, the team drew 46,524 and 47,407 for preseason home games at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego for games against the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers.

According to the Union Tribune, all but a few dozen tickets for the Chargers-Seahawks game were actually sold – so it could be that fans simply chose to skip the Chargers’ inaugural LA game because exhibition games are a freakin’ joke.
