Gov. Jerry Brown announced on Wednesday the signing of a bill to make competitive cheerleading an official high school sport in California.
Democratic Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez of San Diego says this formal recognition will give cheerleading the respect and safety standards that athletes deserve.
Gonzalez is right. Cheerleading is hard, cheerleading is dangerous, and some of the things done by the athletes who participate in the sport are beyond incredible.
