Cheerleading Will Soon be an Official Sport in California

Comeptitive cheerleading will be an official high school sport in California beginning in 2017.

Gov. Jerry Brown announced on Wednesday the signing of a bill to make competitive cheerleading an official high school sport in California.

Democratic Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez of San Diego says this formal recognition will give cheerleading the respect and safety standards that athletes deserve.

Gonzalez is right.  Cheerleading is hard, cheerleading is dangerous, and some of the things done by the athletes who participate in the sport are beyond incredible.

Now can we talk about how golf is not a sport but more of a recreational activity?
