UPDATE: Welp, now we know why she did what she did…as ABC is reporting a “misunderstanding” and she was not, in fact, the winner.
ORIGINAL STORY: We now know who is in possession of that winning Chino Hills Powerball ticket and no, it was not him. As for the real winner, it is not who she is, but what she did after learning she won that will blow your mind.
A 62-year-old Pomona nurse was the big winner – but, get this, she did not even buy the ticket (and no, that is not the mind blowing part, yet). As ABC 7 reports, the senior registered nurse at Park Avenue Health Care and Wellness Center in Pomona, was given the ticket by her boss!
Nursing home owner Shlomo Rechnitz bought 18,000 tickets for the employees and residents of his 80 nursing homes throughout California.
And get this:
The spokesperson told ABC7 the nurse was unaware she’d won until her son sent her a picture of the ticket over the phone.
Even though the nurse knew she’d won, the spokesperson said she still finished her shift before going home.
SHE FINISHED HER SHIFT!!!
Wow. Good for her. I would not have been able to do that. I also still have no idea what these people were thinking either.
The big winner is married and has seven children, six of whom are also nurses – and all of whom are probably going to get some rad gifts soon.
