As the Coachella Valley gears up for Coachella and Stagecoach, rumors have begun to swirl about who might perform at a potential round two of Desert Trip in the fall. While Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles seemed to be pretty likely choices, Billboard reports they have signed on to another music fest taking place in Southern California – which would probably put them out of the picture for a slot in October in Indio.
The Classic West music festival will take place at Dodger Stadium on July 15 and 16, reports Billboard. In addition to the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and Journey, the fest will include Steely Dan, Earth Wind & Fire, and the Doobie Brothers. The same bands will then head east and play CitiField in New York at the end of July.
This, of course, is a bummer – as the Empire Polo Club would be a way better venue to see these acts than Dodger Stadium, but that’s really not up to us. Sigh.
As the LA Times notes, Goldenvoice has not confirmed there will be a follow up to Desert Trip.
While it is not out of the question that some of these acts could perform in July in LA and then October in the desert, it would seem to make more sense for Desert Trip to look for other acts or possibly an entirely different genre of music.
The first Desert Trip was announced in early May last year, so guess we will find out soon enough.
