Sure, you know that there will be loads of security on hand for The Coachella Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival. But, did you know that some of the security officials on hand are part of a “zombie patrol”?
Anna Rumer of The Desert Sun has a pretty interesting article about the expansive security measures that are taken for the huge music fests. In the story, Indio Police Sgt. Dan Marshall mentions the unit – which does not include Rick, Daryl, Michonne, or any other members of the Walking Dead:
Law enforcement’s work doesn’t end after the festival lets out for the night.
That’s when the “zombie patrol” begins, Marshall joked, where officers and security personnel patrol the polo ground perimeters for people who need help figuring out where they are and where they’re going after a day of imbibing.
Using their knowledge of the area, officers often direct people who have forgotten where their campsites are or call a cab for those who shouldn’t be driving.
“I think every year I’ve given people rides home and I know I’m not the only one,” Marshall said. “It does us no good to have people wandering around a town they’re not familiar with.”
Wow. Rad job, Indio Police and festival security.
Dealing with wasted people is never any fun for anyone – but for cops and security to take care of them and to even give them a ride home is awesome.
Well done. I (and the zombies) applaud you.
